Serbia’s top athletics stars will gather in one place with the same mission and goal: winning the Belgrade Indoor Meeting and building momentum while chasing qualification standards for the 2026 World Indoor Championships, to be held in March in Toruń, Poland. On February 11, the Belgrade Athletics Hall will host the elite of domestic and world athletics at the 11th edition of this meeting, which holds “gold” status in the World Athletics calendar. Among the biggest stars set to compete at the Banjica Forest venue is the best Serbian athlete of 2025, our queen of the high jump, 20-year-old Angelina Topić.
The beauty and power she brings to the sport—and to the discipline in which she competes, the high jump—have propelled Topić among the global stars of the “queen of sports.” The magnificent Angelina has accustomed us to steady year-on-year progress, constantly pushing her own limits.
How are preparations going ahead of the season opener?
“We’re currently in the final phase of the preparation process. Everything is going according to plan and I’m very satisfied with what we’ve achieved so far. We’ve completed two successful training camps; the hardest part is basically behind us, and I’m excited about the start of the new season on January 26 in Poland,” says the Serbian gold medalist.
The Belgrade Indoor Meeting is scheduled for February 11—what are your expectations?
“I always look forward to competing in front of the home crowd. Last year was my first appearance at this meeting and it was more than a great experience. I opened the season with a win and an excellent result in a fantastic, packed arena atmosphere. Of course, I’m hoping for the best possible result this year as well,” Topić emphasizes.
Her list of records, results, triumphs, and medals is impressive, especially considering she is only 20. At the 2025 European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, she was the only Serbian athlete to win a medal, taking silver with a jump of 1.95 m. At the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, she finished fourth with the same height (1.95 m), signaling an outstanding continuation of the season. In July, she completed a full set of European titles across the junior age categories. In Bergen, Norway, she claimed gold at the European U23 Championships with a jump of 1.95 m. Then came her historic September in Japan—the toughest test yet. At the World Championships in Tokyo, Topić soared to 1.97 m to secure the bronze medal and make history, joining Ivana Španović and Emir Bekrić as the only Serbian athletes to have won medals at outdoor World Championships.
What are the goals for the 2026 indoor season?
“The main goal is, of course, the World Indoor Championships, which will be held at the end of March in Poland. We’re timing my peak so that I’m at my best then,” Angelina concludes.
