Talented, hardworking, dedicated, and determined to be the best in the world. Step by step, 21-year-old Dutch high jumper Brit Virman is making her way to the throne she has envisioned. She won a silver medal at the 2023 European Indoor Championships, was the European U20 champion in 2021, and finished second at the World U20 Championships a year later. Virman is the Dutch record holder in the high jump, both outdoors and indoors, with seven national titles to her name.

The champion from the land of flowers will showcase her skills to the Belgrade audience at the Gold Belgrade Indoor Meeting on January 29, 2025, at the Athletics Hall in Belgrade. She will face strong competition and a challenge in the graceful Serbian high jumper, Angelina Topić.

What are your expectations for the meeting in Belgrade, and what are your plans and goals for 2025?
“Belgrade will be my first competition of the indoor season in 2025, so I hope to gain a positive feeling from this event. I’m aiming for a good height as part of that.”

When do you expect to reach your peak performance and fully develop your potential and talent?
“I don’t think I’ve reached my peak yet, and there’s still so much more for me to show and achieve on the field. I can’t pinpoint exactly when that will happen. I just hope to improve a little every year.”

Do you believe you’re close to reaching the world’s top level in your discipline?
“I think my personal best is currently close to the world’s top level, but to win medals, I’d need to improve just a bit more.”

What’s your message to children starting their athletic journeys?
“I’d like to tell kids to have fun while doing sports and never stop dreaming. They’re capable of more than they think.”

If you were starting your career now, what would you change or focus on more?
“I don’t think I’d do anything differently. If I were starting my career now, I’d want everything to remain the same. I’ve realized that resilience and avoiding injuries are the most important aspects of a career. I’d devote even more attention to those.”

What are your professional goals for the future?
“I hope to keep improving in the future. One goal is to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games, and I also hope to win medals at the World and European Championships one day,” concluded Brit Virman, the Dutch high jump record holder.
