Serbia’s senior national record holder in the 1,500 m, 3,000 m and 5,000 m on the outdoor track, as well as in the 10 km and half marathon on the road, and the 1,500 m and 3,000 m indoors, 27-year-old Elzan Bibić is ready for new competitive challenges and the 2026 season.
One of the leading figures of Serbian athletics, Bibić is an athlete we always rely on and from whom we consistently expect top-level results. He will take to the track on February 11 at the Athletics Hall on Banjica, where he will compete in the 3,000 meters. The Belgrade Indoor Meeting, one of eight Gold-status events in the 2026 World Athletics calendar, will be an opportunity for Serbia’s record holder to shine once again and open the emerging season with a strong performance.
“I expect consistent performances, good form, and a solid base for the main goals of the summer season. My focus will be on maintaining training continuity, improving speed endurance, and gradually building form for the outdoor season,” Bibić emphasized.
At the end of 2025, Serbian athlete Elzan Bibić triumphed at the sixth Belgrade Half Marathon, breaking the 27-year-old national record previously held by Janko Benša. Bibić claimed victory in the Serbian capital with a time of 1:00:47, finishing 24 seconds faster than Benša’s long-standing mark. The achievement is even more significant considering that he finished ahead of Kenyan long-distance runners Victor Kemboi and Caleb Alhamis.
Bibić broke the Serbian 5,000m national record of legendary Dane Korica, which had stood for 49 years, in September 2020 at a competition in Ostrava. He clocked 13:26.56, improving Korica’s time set in Helsinki in 1976 by four and a half seconds. His collection of medals from major international competitions includes seven medals, among them junior golds at the European Youth Olympic Festivals in 2015 and 2016 in the 3,000m. His most significant achievement to date is undoubtedly the bronze medal at the 2023 European Indoor Championships in Istanbul in the 3,000m.
At the athletics meeting in Bern on August 4, 2023, Bibić won the 1,500m in a new Serbian senior record time of 3:34.20, breaking the national record set by Dragan Zdravković in 1983.
Battles against time, distance, and oneself in middle- and long-distance running demand perseverance and mental toughness—qualities that define Elzan Bibić. In the future, we expect him to continue pushing boundaries and achieving outstanding results across the globe.
